Why PIQELLE

SKINCARE, HELD TO A HIGHER STANDARD

Most skincare promises everything and specifies nothing. PIQELLE was built the other way around — formulas defined by what is in them, at what concentration, and why.

OUR POSITION BARRIER
FIRST

We started from a simple position: the standard a dermatologist would hold a formula to should be the standard every formula is held to. Meaningful actives. Restrained ingredient lists. Nothing included to fill a claim on a carton.

Every PIQELLE product is built barrier-first — because skin that holds its own moisture and keeps irritants out is the foundation everything else depends on.

The Science

THE BARRIER COMES FIRST

Your skin barrier is the outermost layer of the epidermis — cells held together by a lipid matrix of ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids. Think of it as brick and mortar. The cells are the bricks. The lipids are the mortar that seals them.

COMPROMISED BARRIER Depleted lipids leave gaps between cells. Water escapes. Irritants get in. Skin feels tight, flaky and reactive. SUPPORTED BARRIER Ceramides restore the lipid matrix. Moisture is held. Irritants stay out. Skin feels calm, comfortable and resilient.

WHAT DEPLETES IT

Age, over-cleansing, harsh actives, hard water, sun exposure and pollution all strip lipids faster than skin can replace them.

WHAT IT COSTS

A permeable barrier loses water continuously. The result is tightness, flaking, redness, stinging and skin that reacts to products it once tolerated.

WHAT RESTORES IT

Barrier-identical lipids. Ceramide NP replaces what is missing rather than sitting on top of it — supported by panthenol and humectants that hold water where it belongs.

Our Standard

THE PIQELLE CHARTER

Six commitments that every formula in the range is built against.

COMMITMENT N°1 BARRIER
LIPIDS

Barrier-identical lipids in every formula

Ceramide NP is not a garnish at the bottom of the ingredient list. It is structural to how our formulas work.

COMMITMENT N°2 WORKING
DOSES

Actives at working concentrations

An active present below its effective range is decoration. If an ingredient is named on our packaging, it is there to do a job.

COMMITMENT N°3 FRAGRANCE
FREE

Fragrance free, without exception

No parfum. No masking fragrance. Fragrance is among the most common causes of contact sensitivity, and it contributes nothing to how a formula performs.

COMMITMENT N°4 EDTA
FREE

EDTA-free chelation

We use Sodium Gluconate to stabilise our formulas — a readily biodegradable chelator — across the entire range.

COMMITMENT N°5 RESTRAINT
BY DESIGN

Restraint over abundance

Long ingredient lists are easy. We add nothing to a formula that does not earn its place, and we remove anything that only exists to be listed.

COMMITMENT N°6 NEVER
TESTED

Never tested on animals

PIQELLE products are not tested on animals, and we do not commission animal testing at any stage of development.

Ingredients

WHAT WE FORMULATE WITH

Ceramide NP

Barrier-identical lipid. Replenishes the mortar between skin cells and reduces water loss.

Panthenol

Pro-vitamin B5. Soothes, supports repair and improves skin's tolerance to actives.

Niacinamide

Vitamin B3. Supports barrier function, evens the look of tone and helps regulate oil.

Sodium Hyaluronate

Low-molecular-weight humectant. Draws water into the upper layers and holds it there.

Squalane

Lightweight emollient identical to skin's own lipids. Softens without heaviness or shine.

Sodium Gluconate

Our chelating agent, chosen in place of EDTA. Keeps formulas stable and effective through shelf life.

WHAT WE LEAVE OUT

  • Fragrance and masking fragrance
  • EDTA
  • Animal testing
  • Actives dosed below their working range
